The Real Power of Meditation . . .

I think it’s fair to say that when most people think of meditation, the image of someone sitting cross-legged with a blissful smile on their face comes to mind. This ties in with the modern idea of meditation as a way to relax and relieve stress, to find peace, find bliss. And while all of these things are great side effects of meditation, they are not its true purpose.

There is a far greater purpose and power in meditation and I’ll tell you why. The point and purpose of meditation is to prepare your body and mind to experience higher and higher states of consciousness. Let me say that again so that it really sinks in. The point and purpose of meditation is to prepare your body and mind to experience higher and higher states of consciousness, ultimately leading to a state known as Enlightenment.

So, while meditation can be used to find peace, bliss, calm, etc, that is not where its true purpose lies.

Let me give you an example. Gardening. You can garden because it is fun, because you like to grow flowers and plants. You think it looks nice, your kids like it, your neighbors like it, it just makes you feel good to be outside in the garden and the dirt. What a great reason to garden! But what if you took it to another level? What if you make your garden into a pharmacy and a food source? What if you elevate the process of gardening so that it still meets all of your prior experiences, but now it actually feeds you and heals you, and so much more? Do you see where I am going with this?

Meditation is like that, but exponentially better. A garden can feed and heal your body. Meditation can feed and heal your soul.

When you understand the true power in meditation, the small steps become easier because the end goal is understood. Knowing that less stress, more peace, more bliss, and so on are markers on the path, rather than end goals in themselves can be a helpful perspective on the journey toward Enlightenment.

All of the tools and techniques that the Ancient Ways Academy provide are with the above mentioned goals in mind. The introductory techniques are meant to prepare your body and mind to spend more and more time in elevated states of consciousness. The more advanced techniques will help you explore once you get there.

As always, consistency and determination are key in achieving your desired results. We can show you the way, but you have to do the work.

Until next time, may you have many happy travels.
